I love unique patterns, and when I saw this may day baskets quilt by Missouri Star, I knew I had to make it right away. It’s a simple quilt made from half-square triangles. If you are still just starting to learn how to quilt, this pattern is for you. It’s easy and not complicated at all.

Instructions

Step 1:

Take two strips, one dark and one light, and sew them together on both sides with a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

Step 2:

Take the clearly perfect slotted trimmer B and cut three-inch half-square triangles. Lay their stitch line on your stitch line and cut side to side. For the next cut, just flip it around. Once done, press them open. You can also use a regular ruler with a 45-degree angle.

Step 3:

To make the basket shape, you also need some of the same sizes of half-square triangles. Take your basket fabric strip and a 2 1/2″ background strip. Sew them on both sides and cut 3-inch half-square triangles.

Step 4:

Lay your half-square triangles just like in the photo below. Sew them together with a 1/4″ seam allowance.

Step 5:

Take a 6″ background square and a 6″ complementary fabric square. Place them right sides together with the background on top. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the background fabric and sew on both sides of the line with a 1/4″ allowance. Once done, cut directly on the line, then trim into 5 1/2″. Press them open.

Step 6:

Get two pieces of 3″ x 5 1/2″ white rectangles and place them on the sides of the 5 1/2″ block.  Sew them together. Once done, press it open.

You need 6 blocks across and 6 down. Add the inner border, outer border, and backing. Quilt and bind.
