I made this layer cakes grand adventures quilt by Missouri Star Quilt Company as a remembrance of the travels I made for the whole year. If you don’t know what to do with your 10-inch squares of precut fabric, I suggest you make them into these beautiful blocks. This is super easy and quick to sew – perfect for beginners in quilting. Watch the video below for detailed instructions.

Take 1 piece of background square and printed square. Fold the background square in half diagonally to make a crease. Lay the printed fabric right side up and place the background fabric on top. Make sure your iron line is going down. Sew a quarter of an inch on either side of the crease line. Cut it in half diagonally on the fold line using a rotary cutter and ruler. Press each one open. Do this for 40 of your squares.
Take two half squares and separate them into two piles.
Cut the block into strips. Make sure it is oriented the right way. The strips will have both the printed and background fabric. Take the finished size of the block and divide it by four. Your strip size is now 2 3/8. Turn the strip right side down and sew them together with a quarter of an inch seam allowance. The seams on the back should all go in the same direction. Make 4 of this block – 2 for each block orientation.
Arrange them in a big block with the colors together to make the mountain. Sew them together with a quarter of an inch seam allowance.
To make the quilt you need 5 across and 4 down. The first border across the top and bottom is just a straight 2 3/8 strip.
