Take 12 dark 10″ squares and cut each into four pieces of 5″ squares for a total of 48 squares.
Take 9 light 10″ squares and cut each into four pieces of 5″ squares for a total of 36 squares.
Take 2 of the darkest 10″ squares and cut each in half. Cut each of the 5 x 10″ into 5 x 1″ accent strips for a total of 20 pieces.
Take a light 5″ square and cut it into half to make 2 pieces of 2 1/2 x 5″ rectangles. Sew a 5 x 1″ accent strip onto one long side of the light 2 1/2 x 5″ rectangle with a 1/4 seam allowance. Press the seam allowance toward the accent strip. Sew the remaining 2 1/2 x 5″ rectangle to the accent strip. Finger press again toward the accent strip. Now, you have a 5″ square. Do the same with the rest of the light squares until you have a total of 35 light blocks with accent strips in the center.
Arrange the blocks alternating the 5″ light accent blocks and 5″ dark blocks.
Take 6 of the light 10″ squares and cut each to become 8 1/2″. Cut along both diagonals to make 4 triangles. You will have 24 triangles. Place them as shown in the photo below.
Take 1 light 10″ square and cut it into a 7 1/2″ square. Cut it along both diagonals to create 4 triangles. Place a triangle in each corner of the quilt.
Sew blocks and triangles into rows. Cut off excess side and corner triangle fabric to make the edges even. Press all seams toward the darker fabric.
Sew rows together then press seams to one side.
Steam press the quilt then trim off the edges to 1/2′ beyond the 5″ blocks.
