Materials:

  • 2 Christmas themed fabrics
  • fusible interfacing
  • kaleidoscope star ornament template
  • standard sewing supplies
  • click here for the pattern

Directions:

Step 1

Cut out the fabrics twice as wide and high as the pattern. Cut them to get four fabric pieces out of each fabric. Next, iron the fusible interfacing to the wrong side of each fabric. Now, cut the fabric in half lengthwise and crosswise. Repeat this process for the second fabric. (You should end up with eight fabric squares.) Fold each square into a kite shape, then finger press in half along diagonally. Unfold and fold along the other diagonal, then mark the center. Fold all four points so that they meet in the center and iron. To make the kite shape, fold the top left and right corners to the middle line, then pin to secure. Repeat this for all fabric squares.

Step 2

Now, stitch along the left short side and both long sides. Repeat this for all the kite shapes. To assemble the star ornament, add kites one by one and sew them together, alternating the fabrics and overlapping each other. Glue the hanging loop to the back of the DIY Christmas ornament to finish it.

I feel in love with DIY as soon as I discovered it and could not have been more excited when I learned I could share projects with people around the world. Taking photos is a passion of mine, as is design and painting with oils. I love holidays and celebrations, crafting cute little gifts and serving up at least one new recipe I am excited about.
