Materials:

Throw Size:

  • 40 – 5″ squares
  • 2 yards of background yardage
  • 1/2 yard binding
  • 3 3/4 yards backing
  • 62″ x 62″ batting

Directions:

Step 1

Subcut the background yardage into four 5″ x WOF strips, then cut thirty-two 5″ squares into those strips. Next, with the background yardage again, subcut three 14″ x WOF strips, then cut those strips into eight 14″ squares. Now, select five print 5″ squares and four background 5″ squares. With these, create your nine-patch block. Sew them by rows, then sew those rows together to create the block. Once completed, the nine-patch should measure 14″, the same size as your large background square. Repeat these steps until you have made enough for the quilt size you’ve selected.

Step 2

Once done, lay your quilt top. Start with a nine-patch then a background 14″ square. Alternate them until you finished laying out all the pieces. After this, sew them in rows, then sew those rows together to finish the quilt top.
