Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage, pork, or turkey
  • ¾ cup Italian style seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp dried onion flakes
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp dried oregano
  • ¼ tsp dried basil
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 4 ounces mozzarella or 2-3 string cheese sticks, cut into small pieces
  • 32 ounces jar of spaghetti sauce or about 4 cups of homemade marinara

Directions:

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, place the ground meat, and add seasoned breadcrumbs, egg, onion flakes, garlic powder, dried oregano, dried basil, and salt. Mix everything together until well combined. Cover it with a lid, then pop it in the fridge, and leave it there for about 30 minutes until all the flavors have come together. After 30 minutes, take the meat mixture out of the fridge then start scooping it with a spoon to make about an inch in diameter meatballs. Use water to wet your hands if the meat begins to stick. Next, take a piece of cubed mozzarella cheese, press it into the center of the meatball, then bring the meat up and around the cheese until completely covered. Reshape it into a ball. Repeat the process until you’ve used up all the meat mixture.

Step 2

Place a large pot on a stove over low heat, then add in the spaghetti or your homemade marinara, and let it heat up. While waiting for the sauce to heat up, place a skillet pan on a stove over medium-high heat, then heat up some olive oil, and start browning the meatballs. Shake the pan back and forth every minute to keep the meatball’s round shape as they brown. After cooking the meatballs, add them to the heated sauce, then continue cooking them for about 10 minutes or until the cheese begins to leak. To check the meatballs’ doneness, get one and cut it open to see whether the center is no longer pink. Remove from heat and serve over your favorite pasta or on hoagie buns.
