Numerous casserole recipes can be found online, but this John Wayne Casserole shared with us by Country Rebel Recipes is one of the few casseroles that will give Tater Tot’s Casserole a run for its money. This casserole is loaded with beef, veggies, and cheese and topped with flavorful biscuits smothered in butter.
Ingredients:
Directions:
Prepare all the needed ingredients.
Preheat the oven to 375F.
In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Once heated, add the diced onions, bell pepper, and ground beef. Sauté and cook the beef while stirring often. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and vegetables are tender. Stir in the taco seasoning until everything is incorporated. Add water and bring to a boil.
Once boiled, reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the tomatoes and chillies. Set aside.
For the cheesy layer, stir together sour cream and mayonnaise until smooth. Then, fold in the cheese and set it aside.
Whisk together the baking mixture and the ranch dressing mixture for the biscuits until well combined. Stir in some water and cheese until well incorporated. Make sure to not over mix.
Spread the meat mixture in the bottom of a 9-inch x 13-inch baking dish to start.Layer the cheese mixture evenly on top of the meat, and then drop the biscuit dough by tablespoonfuls onto the cheese mixture.
Place the pan in the preheated oven to bake for 30 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and the casserole is bubbly around the edges.
Serve and enjoy!
