Jack Daniels is delicious as a drink, but have you thought of using good old Jack Black as a glaze for your Christmas or New Year Ham? If you haven’t tried it and you are a fan of Old Number 7, you are definitely missing out on something extraordinary. I saw this recipe on Youtube and knew it was going to be perfect for my holiday spread, I just got the husband to fire up his Bar B Que Smoker and away we went. I started by making my glaze, it’s so easy, you just need a little three-pound ham, root beer, brown sugar, and Jack Daniels.
Then you just score the ham in a checkerboard fashion with your knife, going about an inch to a half-inch into the ham all over. This allows the Jack Daniels Glaze to permeate you ham and make it very flavorful, make sure and do the entire surface of the ham.
Then You put your ham on a pan
and set it inside the smoker and cook it from two to three hours.
Then you make your glaze with 2 cups root beer, 1 cup packed brown sugar, and 1 1/4 cup Jack Daniels Tennessee Whisky. You make this Jack Daniels glaze in a saucepan and the cool thing is you don’t have to go inside, you can set your Jack Daniels Glaze on the firebox part of your smoker and let it simmer, that way it will be right there and available to you.
Then you just baste your ham with the Jack Daniels Glaze, the juices start to release and it is amazing.
This is a delicious recipe and I cannot recommend it enough.
