Garlic is one of those elements, along with onions, carrots, and celery, that can be found in almost any type of savory dish. If you want to get the most out of your money, even though it’s cheap, it’s imperative that you preserve it properly. Jerry James Stone on Youtube gives us a tutorial on how to preserve garlic for six months.

So, how do you keep garlic fresh?

The first thing to keep in mind is that garlic prefers the cold. It, too, is a fan of the chill. It prefers a cool environment, so avoid putting it in the refrigerator if possible.

It should be at room temperature before you use it. Storage in the pantry is fine, but you like it to be in a cooler location. Additionally, it should be located in a completely dry environment. Humidity bothers it, but I enjoy it. As a result, you desire a dry, cool environment free of dampness. So you’re looking for a dingy, dim, and eerie setting? The third feature of these three items is that they must be well ventilated; this is critical. So you’re looking for a place where the air doesn’t become stale, right?

Keep it out of the way. Garlic won’t thrive in the environment. While you may be able to get away with it depending on your house’s state, it is not something I recommend doing. That’s why it’s so crucial to keep garlic in the refrigerator.

You don’t want to put it in the fridge since it will have a whole different effect in the fridge. Since there is moisture in there, the garlic may sprout. That’s a good thing, actually. Garlic has undoubtedly been in your pantry for a while now.

Garlic can be kept unopened for up to six months if kept in a cold, dry place. A lot of time can pass before you need to use it. Garlic isn’t the only thing that grows out of the ground.

It can be difficult to know what to make of it. You can eat the sprouts, and you can eat the garlic after it has sprouted, although the garlic will likely become bitter. It is hence my recommendation that if it does sprout, you discard it. It’s okay to use whatever you buy if you have to, but be aware that it will taste bitter.

This is not a good solution. Putting it in the fridge will likely speed up the sprouting process. If left out on the counter or pantry for more than a month, it will grow. Why would you want to keep it at that location?

And it should remain thus. About six months can be expected if you store it properly. It’ll take you at least ten days after breaking into the bulb before you’re ready to use the whole thing. So, just something to be aware of going forward.

The freshness of the whole thing will be gone in about 10 days if you open one up, so you’ll want to cook a lot when you open one up. If you must store it in the refrigerator, don’t put it in a bag because of the humidity in your home.

Garlic rots much faster if you put it in a bag because it retains more moisture.

Keep the humidity low by putting it in the crisper drawer and try to avoid doing so if you can. To summarize, that’s how you keep garlic in storage.
