A power outage is inevitable and can happen at any time, so it’s best to keep yourself ready for this occurrence all the time. Losing electricity can be a hassle and hinder your everyday routine and activity, especially during the Winter when it’s hard to keep warm.

Fortunately, there are a couple of things that you can do to keep yourself warm and comfortable while waiting for the power to come back. You can learn them in this video tutorial by The Provident Prepper on YouTube. I hope you find them as helpful as I did.
Tip #1: Prevent heat loss
Secure your home to prevent heat loss by blocking the cold air out. Find the entry points and insulate them as well as your windows, you can use painter’s, duct, or packing tape. Select a designated living area, then shut the doors, and block the area using sheets or blankets. It’s also best to confine your activities to an area where there’s a built-in heat source or stay in the kitchen instead where you got everything you need.
Tip #2: Create a microclimate
Find a small area where you can build some heat source and maintain it, you can put and set up a tent, then place some blankets and pillows inside it. You can do your activities and play fun games with your family in the tent.
Tip #3: Dress warmly
It’s a good idea to dress in layers to keep your body warm. The base layer will wick away the moisture, then the mid-layer will insulate and retain your body heat, and the outer layer or shell will shield and protect you from the weather. Make sure to also wear your hat, gloves, socks, and use, and to use real blankets instead of alternatives.

Tip #4: Drink warm liquids and eat hot foods
Drinking warm beverages and eating hot foods will bring you warmth and comfort. This is why you have to have some safe indoor cooking equipment, and make sure to have a good supply of shelf-stable foods to feed yourself while the power is out.
Tip #5: Get up and move around
It is also recommended to keep your body moving to generate some heat but make sure you do not sweat. A 20-minute exercise is enough to keep you warm for an hour, however, you don’t need to do real exercises because you can just play games and interact instead.
Tip #6: Find potential heat sources
Find a good heat source to keep you warm, it can be a hot water bottle or a canning jar filled with hot water. Having your pets on your lap can keep you warm, too, and with that said, it is best to snuggle with your family to provide comfort and security. There are also store-bought hand warmers that you can use to keep away the cold.
