I recently found this wonderful video by Professor Pincushion, on YouTube, that describes exactly how to shorten a zipper in a couple of easy steps. There are many reasons why you may need to shorten a zipper, you may have a custom garment that will not be suited for a standard zipper from the fabric store, or maybe you may just want to use what you have instead of traipsing all over town to find one. Whatever the case, this method of shortening a zipper is useful information that can always be used somewhere along the road.
In this wonderful video by Professor Pincushion, on YouTube, you will learn how to shorten a zipper in a couple of easy steps. You will begin by using the ruler to mark the desired zipper length with a fabric marker. Then, you will use a needle and thread to sew a thick loop over the place that you want the zipper to stop.
Then, you will mark 1-inch below your sewing with your fabric marker then you will cut the end section off with your scissors. The zipper will now be ready to use at the new length.
