One type of fabric that is a bit challenging to sew is faux fur or fuzzy fabrics, but once you learn the proper technique on how to sew these types of fabric, you’ll be an expert in no time. So here are the top tips in sewing furs by Melly Sews on YouTube, enjoy and let’s get sewing!
Step 1:
Pay attention to the fabric nap or the direction where the furs are piling up. Consider using special tools in sewing the fabrics such as; clips or weights instead of pins, this way you’ll be able to hold thicker fabrics in place and avoid the pins from sliding through. You should also consider washable markers as it is a much better substitute for visible marks. Applique scissors help a lot in cutting or trimming piles of furs out of the seam allowance. Lastly, use the walking foot in your machine to stitch the fabrics better and avoid them from slipping.

Step 2:
Cut the fabrics carefully and be aware of where the nap is running, trace your pattern with a washable marker then cut towards the direction of the fabric nap. Trim and remove the pile from the seam allowance before carefully stitching using a zigzag style. Stack the two fabrics and secure them together with a clip then sew very close to the raw edge. Open up the fabric then run a finger over the seam to hide the stitch. You can also try butting the end of the seams against each other and sew, using a pin poke and free the furs from within to hide the stitches.
