Materials:

  • 100% cotton batting
  • rotary cutting set
  • 100% cotton fabric for the exterior)
  • interior fabric (muslin)
  • scissors
  • pins
  • ruler
  • coordinating thread
  • sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Cut the batting to 20 x 12″ using your ruler and rotary cutter. Cut your exterior fabric and your cotton fabric to these dimensions also. Cut some 6 x 2″ fabric also for the loop. Next, put down your batting, followed by the lining fabric, then the exterior fabric with the right side facing down. Secure with pins. Take this to the sewing machine and sew the short ends with 1/4″ seam allowance. After this, turn the potato bag right side out.

Step 2

Next, sew a 1/4″ top stitch on the short sides. Now to make the loop, take the 6 x 2″ fabric and simply fold over lengthwise with good sides facing in and the wrong side facing out. Sew with a 1/4″ seam allowance (leave a gap to turn the loop.) After sewing, turn it inside out. Get the potato bag again, measure down about 3″ from one end, put the loop inside the 3″, fold over in half, then, pull up the other side, overlapping the shorter fold of about 1.2″. Pin it in place and sew the two short ends with 1/4″ seam allowance. After this, turn the potato bag right side out. Your potato bag is now finished.
