Running out of hand towels? Try making one yourself and you’ll surely love the result. Not only is it comparably inexpensive but also very pretty, if you don’t want to use them, you can also give them as a gift, or even sell them! This sewing project by So Sew Easy on YouTube is one of my all-time favorite tutorials.

Directions:

Step 1

Lay the towel flat on the surface, then cut it across in half, and you’ll end up with 2 pieces of the same size. Sew the raw edges of your towel with a gathering stitch with a ¼ seam allowance. Pull the thread at the edge and gently gather the towel at the center. Repeat the process with the other piece of towel. Download, print, and cut out your hanging towel pattern, then place it on top of your folded main fabric, trace and cut out, you should end up with a pair for each towel. Flip one of the fabric pairs over so that their right sides are facing, then sew around the edges, and leave the bottom unsewn.

Step 2

Repeat this process with the other pair of fabrics. Make notches around the curves, then turn it right side out. Tuck the bottom about ½ inch in, then give it them a good press. Insert the gathered side of the towel inside the fabric and hide the stitches underneath, then pin them in place, and sew straight twice. Fold the round top of the fabric down and mark where you want the buttonholes to be. Make the buttonhole and sew the button in place, then hang your towel.
