Having a hard time scooping a frozen solid ice cream? There’s an easier way to do it! Let America’s Test Kitchen teach you how to scoop ice cream when it’s frozen solid with this simple hack.
Ice cream is my favorite dessert. I love it ever since I was a kid. I can say no to cakes, chocolates, cookies, or any sweet treat, but not ice cream. It is just so delicious and creamy. We often have a tub of ice cream in our freezer, and whenever I am craving something sweet, I get myself a scoop or two.

The only problem with ice cream in tubs is that it can be very hard to scoop. It’s frustrating and disappointing whenever this happens. What I used to do was scoop out the ice cream from the edges and work my way to the center. It is not very easy! I had to put so much force just to get a small scoop.
Thanks to this ice cream trick, I can now scoop my ice cream easily. It’s definitely a game-changer. Try it next time you have ice cream.

Take a sharp pairing knife and run the blade under hot water.
Using the hot knife, make one-inch deep cuts spaced one inch apart from side to side across the surface of the ice cream. Turn the container 90 degrees and repeat to form a checkerboard pattern.
Warm your ice cream scoop under hot water and scoop your ice cream.
Keep repeating the checkerboard pattern as you go down to the lower levels of ice cream.
