Materials:

  • Plastic bag
  • Plastic wrap
  • Tall glass
  • Spray bottle
  • Vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Water
  • Venus flytrap
  • Cloves
  • Lemon
  • Lavender oil
  • Lemongrass

Directions:

1.) Water-filled plastic bags

Simply fill a gallon-sized plastic bag half full of water, then secure the ends with a tie or rubber band, and hang it in the doorways and other entry points. You can also put a coin inside to refract more light. It works because water distorts the fly’s vision and produces reflections that cause it to become disoriented.

2.) Fly home remedy vinegar and dish soap

In a tall glass, mix together about an inch of apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap, then cover the glass with plastic wrap, and secure it with a rubber band before poking small holes on top. Flies will be attracted to the vinegar and they will fly through the small holes, but the dish soap inside will cause the flies to sink instead of being able to land on the vinegar.

3.) Cayenne pepper and water

This one is really simple to make, just mix cayenne pepper and water together, then start spraying it around your house to deter flies from coming in. However, please be careful if you have pets, just keep them in mind when using this home remedy for house flies as they might get irritated or allergic to the mixture.

4.) Venus flytrap

Venus flytraps are carnivorous plants that eat insects, if you plant them outside, they’ll naturally eat flies. When a fly gets in the plant’s trap, it closes around the fly. It then secretes digestive, fluid to dissolve the insect’s soft insides.

5.) Clove repellent

Cut a lemon in half, then insert about 6 to 12 cloves into each lemon half so that the bud ends are sticking out, and leave them on a plate in the middle of the table or counter. Cloves give us a pleasant aroma, but house flies can’t stand the scent.

6.) Lavender oil

Pour ½ to 1 cup of lavender oil into a bowl, then dip a sponge or cloth into the oil, place the sponge or cloth in a container, and cover it with the lid. Leave it for about24 hours, then remove the lid, and place the container in a fly-infested area. Re-soak the cloth or sponge as needed, then cover and store when not in use. Please note that undiluted lavender oil can cause allergic reactions in some people.

7.) Lemongrass spray

Pour about 10 to 12 drops of lemongrass essential oil into a spray bottle, then add ¼ cup of hot water, put the lid on the bottle, and shake it well. Spray this mixture on the door and window frames, you can also spray this directly to flies if you’re quick enough.
