Peeling hardboiled eggs can be stressful and frustrating, but this tutorial by Vijaya Selvaraju on YouTube shows 3 different ways on how to peel an egg in under 10 seconds. I know there are many people out there who avoid boiling eggs because they struggle with peeling them. Honestly, I hate it when I peel an egg and the egg whites get stuck onto its shell. So, if you are making a big batch of boiled eggs then, consider these tips.
This is the method that I always stand by because it hasn’t let me down. Gently tap the egg onto a hard surface and give it a roll. Slowly pry the eggshells off, and it should come off smoothly.
First, tap the widest part of the egg onto the counter, and peel off a quarter size off. Take a small teaspoon, insert it under the shell, and start rotating. The shell should start to crack once it’s under the membrane.
Tap the base of the egg, and remove about a quarter size. Then, tap the top of the egg, and remove the shell about a size of a dime. Bring the egg to your mouth hold it tightly around, and blow. It should shoot right out of the shell, but be careful because it will slip and fly.
In conclusion, it’s satisfying when you’re able to peel an egg perfectly without the egg whites being stuck onto the shell or when the shell comes off fast. The tap and roll method is the one that works wonders for me, but I usually take it off of the boiling water and run it with cold water. I let it sit in cold water for about 5 minutes before peeling too. Overall, all of these methods work on how to peel an egg in under 10 seconds.
