On the hunt for some new wall decor? Look no further, you should just make it yourself. This carnation flowers with cotton swabs tutorial by Designer Gemma77 will make the perfect addition to any wall. It’s completely customizable, and could be done with any paint you have lying around at home. The best part of all, it requires minimal materials, and likely the only thing you will need to buy is a canvas. You don’t even need a paintbrush!

Materials Needed For This DIY Project:

  • Cotton Swabs
  • Canvas
  • Paint

Directions:

Step One

Paint your canvas one solid color. In the YouTube video down below, Designer Gemma77 painted the canvas black. After spreading the paint out, you will need to hit it with a heat gun of some sort to get any air bubbles out of the paint.

Step Two

Create a bundle of cotton swabs by bunching them together and tying a rubber band around them.

Step Three

Dip the cotton swabs into red paint and then drag the paint in a downward motion while moving in a circle to create a flower shape. In the video down below Designer Gemma77 uses red paint for this step. The base color of paint should run-in with the new color of paint you use.

Step Four

Repeat step three as many times as you’d like. In the video, she paints five flowers on her canvas. I recommend doing as many as will fill your canvas.

Step Five

Use a new paint color for the stems. Using a paint knife, dip the knife in the new color then drag the knife down underneath the flower to create the stems.
