A customized denim jacket is one of the quintessential iconic Rock and Roll items of all time. There are so many ways to customize a denim jacket, I had never really thought of painting one until I saw this amazing video on Youtube, this guy in the video does the most amazing job of painting his denim jacket and he describes exactly what paints to use and what to mix them with and how to wash your denim once you have painted on it. The woman he paints reminds me of the WWII era flight jackets with the tiger and dragon motifs, they are so classic and worth a fortune now. I follow many chain stitch embroidery people on Instagram and almost all of them sketch out their work before it hits the sewing machine so why not paint it? It really looks amazing and I thought I would give it a go, but first, we have to really study what this Youtuber does. The materials are pretty basic, you only need a few things, that are probably already laying around the craft room.
Materials:
- A Denim Jacket
- Textile Medium By Liquitex or Textile Medium Undercoat by Delta Creative
- Water Resistant Acrylics (in colors of your choice)
- A Fabric Pen
- Fine Point Marker
Directions:
First, sketch your drawing on your jacket with a pencil, then trace over that with a fine point art pen. Mix your paint with
Then use Basics Acrylic Color by Liquitex for a good result.
You can do a test run with different paints, then seal with wax paper and an iron and wash on cold then drip dry.
Then paint your image and enjoy your hand-painted masterpiece.
I am so glad I found this method of painting so my colors won’t run or fade anymore.
