Pies have always been the best food you can make to share with your friends, family, or any loved one. Personally, it is my go-to comfort food as it sends me warm and fuzzy feelings. Since I eat pies often, instead of going to the nearest bakery and ordering every single time, I thought to myself, why not create my version of it and put any twist or flavor I wanted to. That’s when I decided to watch my favorite pastry vlogger, Erin from Food52. She made the process fun and easy to follow, you can also check out her other recipes and try making it at your home. Who would’ve thought baking my pie would be this easy and cheap? If you’re as excited as I am right now, let’s head on to the recipe and make the perfect Pie Dough and Crust!

Ingredients:

  • 300 grams or 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 8 ounces Butter, cut into cubes
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 1/4 cup or more (as needed) Ice cold water

Directions:

Step 1:

Mix the all-purpose flour and the cubed butter using your hands and gently squish/break the butter

Step 2:

Add the water slowly until you get your desired consistency. Mix it and cut the dough in half, wrap each into a plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes – 1 hour.

Step 3:

Sprinkle some flour on the surface where you’ll shape the dough. Flour the dough itself on both sides. Roll the dough using a rolling pin until it is wide enough to fit on the pie plate.

Step 4:

Fit the dough in the pie plate and trim away the excess.

Step 5:

Fold the edge of the dough and put your filling. Seal the pie with a top crust and trim away the excess.

Food for me is an art form, so I get my kicks from playing around with flavors and ingredients. And, if you can't find me in the kitchen, I'm probably lurking in a cozy café, sipping on some coffee while indulging in my favorite burnt Basque cheesecake with either a book or phone in hand, of course.
