This tutorial by pocket83 on YouTube gives steps on how to make a hummingbird feeder from a soy sauce bottle. Plus, it has all of the steps from different wiring to the feeder recipe. I believe this is a nifty hack and so inexpensive. Apparently, hummingbird season is midsummer and I think it’s fun to create something out of things that are simple and not complicated. Everything about this video is handy because it’s very thorough with detailed instructions. He provides how to make, use, and care for this simple hummingbird feeder. You can easily make 4-6 feeders if needed. I haven’t seen many hummingbirds yet in Tennessee, or maybe I haven’t been aware. It would be cool to create this and see if I could attract any in my backyard.

Materials:

  • Kikkoman soy sauce bottle
  • copper wires, coat hanger or steel clothesline wire
  • needle nose pliers

Directions:

First, find a Kikkoman soy sauce bottle at any store, and make sure it’s empty. These are great because they can withstand boiling water or frozen. Also, there are different kinds of wires that you can use, but he recommends using the steel clothesline wire for best results.

In conclusion, this is an innovative idea and I think it’s so interesting that this actually attracts hummingbirds. I think my favorite part of this video are the live shots of the hummingbirds eating from the feeder. Apparently, the hummingbirds from his experience, go through these feeders twice a day. This is such a practical idea and I know hummingbird feeders can run high at stores. My dad is a crafty person when it comes to things like these, so I would recommend him making these too.
