I just found the most amazing quilting video of all time by Tula Pink on Youtube, where she makes an English paper piece quilt with fussy cutting. I have to say, being an amateur quilter, I often wondered how these kinds of quilts were made and now I know, it’s all about the cutting. In a project like this English paper piece, you have to spend as much time cutting your fabric as you do sewing, so needless to say this is not your straightforward quilting project and it requires advanced sewing skills, so it is not for the novice seamstress or the faint of heart. Fussy cutting is a method of meticulously piecing together a quilting pattern only reserved for your very best fabrics that you really haven’t wanted to cut.
In this wonderful video tutorial, you will learn the art of the fussy cut and Tula Pink shows you three different methods. This is one of the methods where you rough cut a shape and then fold it around the paper.
Then you just fold it around the paper and use a glue stick to attach and hold the fabric down to the paper, this is why this method is called a paper piece quilt.
This video has so many interesting things in it and it is so informative, I really learned a lot from Tula.
