Materials:

  • 2 pcs. 10 x 10″ cotton wadding
  • 2 pcs. 10 x 10″ patent cotton
  • marking tool or tailor’s chalk
  • pins
  • ruler
  • scissors

Directions:

Step 1

Lay one of your patent cotton over one of the wadding pieces and pin it to secure. Mark the fabric corner to corner using your ruler and marking tool. Sew over these lines in the sewing machine. After sewing, remove the pins. Next, fold your fabric in half, measure 2″ down on the folded side of the fabric and mark it. Then, measure 1″ along the top and mark again. Draw along these two points to create a sew line. Repeat this on the other side, then run this to your sewing machine to give the bowl cozy a shape. Once both the ends have been sewn, fold the fabric the other way and repeat the process with the other two corners. Cut the excess fabric. You now have the basic shape of the bowl cozy. Repeat this with the other fabric.

Step 2

Next, turn one bowl inside out and place it within the other so the pattern sides are facing each other. Line up the edges and use pins to secure the fabrics together. Mark a 2″ opening left unsewn. When sewing around the edges, to keep out the corners neat, sew up to the corner, then with the needle drop down, lift the sewing foot, and move the fabric. Then drop the sewing foot down again and continue. Trimmed off the corners and open the unsewn gap and turn the fabric inside out. Push out all the internal seams so they’ll sit nice and flat, then close up the gap by sewing around the edge. (Sew as close to the edge as you can.)
