Sunflowers have been a popular summertime flower for quite some time, and now you can have them on all your clothing. This sunflower hand embroidery project tutorial by Miss Anjiara Begum is absolutely gorgeous. It does take a little longer than some other projects might, but the results are very worth it.

Materials Needed For This DIY:

  • Embroidery Hoop
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Cotton Fabric
  • Cotton Thread
  • Marker
  • Beads

Directions:

Step One

Place your cotton fabric in your embroidery hoop. Make sure the fabric is pulled tightly to keep your design tight.

Step Two

Draw your sunflower onto the cotton fabric using your marker.

Step Three

Start by creating your leaves. For this step, you will use your green thread. This step will have two different stitches. The layers of the leaves will be the first part you stitch, then you will go back in and fill in the rest of the leaves.

Step Four

Stitch the stem and the limbs of the leaves onto the fabric using a locking stitch

Step Five

Using your yellow thread, begin stitching your sunflower petals. Start with one stitch at the top then work your way down the petals while alternating sides.

Step Six

Create your 3D flower petals. These petals will be able to stick off the fabric on their own. This step is optional but looks really beautiful if you want to give it a try. Watch the video down below to see exactly how to do this.

Step Seven

Create the center of your sunflower using black and brown thread. Start by making a crisis cross pattern with your black thread, then filling in the black thread with brown thread.

That’s it. This project is a bit more on the time-consuming side, but the results are worth it.

I feel in love with DIY as soon as I discovered it and could not have been more excited when I learned I could share projects with people around the world. Taking photos is a passion of mine, as is design and painting with oils. I love holidays and celebrations, crafting cute little gifts and serving up at least one new recipe I am excited about.
