Having trouble removing weeds on your driveway and sidewalk? These invasive plants can really be a headache but don’t worry. Everyday home Repairs has a simple solution for your problem. After you do this, you will no longer have to deal with getting rid of them ever again. No more frequent maintenance needed! How relieving is that? Read on or watch the video below for full instructions.
Using a flathead screwdriver, dig down the cracks and remove them. If you have a string trimmer, you can go across these expansion joints. After that, grab your hose and shoot the stream right on the joints to remove the dirt inside.
Sprinkle it down, then let it sit. When it rains again, more dirt and debris will fill back in, but the granules should stay in that soil preventing any weeds from growing by killing them at the root.
Measure the gap using a carpenter’s pencil or tape measure. Once you have the measurement, get a backer rod with that measurement. You want the backer rod to be tight in the actual gap when you press it in place. It should be a quarter of an inch below the concrete surface. Make sure that it fits perfectly in the gaps. It should be firm and will not float up to the top. If the backer rod is not tightly placed, it will float and the sealant will go around.
Fill the gaps with the sealant. Take your time when doing this. Once done, let it set for about 30 to 45 minutes then sprinkle with sand. Make sure not to put it on a hot sunny day as the sealant may bubble.
