When you open your stovetop burner and all you smell is gas but it doesn’t light up, then don’t panic just yet, because there is an easy fix to this where you don’t need to call up a professional. Nine times out of ten, the solution for this type of problem is often very simple and common.

You wouldn’t even need a special tool or chemical to fix this, you just need a paper clip or some sort of decompressed air to clean a specific part of your igniter that might be causing the problem. Learn the steps in this video tutorial by JMG ENTERPRISES on YouTube.

How to Fix a Stovetop Burner:
Step 1
First, you’re going to have to to remove the grate and anything that might get in the way, then remove the gas lid, and locate the small hole on the side of the burner where the gas comes out. Usually on most burners, the gas goes through that tiny little hole, then allows the gas to escape over the igniter, and it might accumulate grease and food particles over time which then hinders it from lighting up.

Step 2
What you’re going to do next is to grab a small piece of paper clip, then straighten it, and use it to poke through the hole to push out anything that’s clogging it. Make sure to remove anything that’s preventing the gas from getting to the igniter, you can also use a duster or decompressed air tool of some sort to blow up the hole. After clearing out the hole, make sure to put the lid back on as well as the grate, and then test it out.
