DIY Solution:

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 tsp borax
  • 1 tsp oxygen bleach
  • a couple of drops of lavender

Directions:

Step 1

First, evaluate your pieces and separate them by labels. Wash them according to their label and spot-clean the pieces that need it. Just put a bit of water directly on the stain and a little oxygen bleach. Rub it to get the stain out.

Step 2

For the “dry clean only” clothes, make the DIY solution. Combine 1 cup warm water, 1/4 cup vinegar, 1 tsp borax, 1 tsp oxygen bleach, and a couple of drops of lavender in a bowl and mix well. Soak a clean cloth into that solution. Meanwhile, put about three pieces of clothes in a sack or zip-top pillowcase together with the soaked cloth. Toss it in the dryer for 30 minutes.

Step 3

For silk items, hand wash them with a bit of Ajax, then rinse well. After this, lay one on a dry towel, roll it up, then wring it, getting as much water as possible. Hang it up to air dry, then iron it with no steam.
