Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation of the thyroid gland due to the failure of the immune system and causes the gland to self-destruct or decrease its activity. This also causes a failure in the production of the hormones T3 and T4 which lead to hyperthyroidism which is more common in women than in men and is sometimes genetic. Hashimoto’s disease is a slowly developing disease that shows no symptoms at first and as it progresses to hypothyroidism some signs will start to appear. Some of these are low heart rate, fatigue, deeper voice, drowsiness, malaise, dry and cold skin, loss of appetite, weight gain, constipation, enlarged thyroid glands, and mumps. If you have one or more of these symptoms, seek medical advice immediately and maintain a healthier lifestyle. One of the best ways to keep a healthy lifestyle is by incorporating cumin tea into your diet as it is effective in increasing hormone T3. According to a study, the consumption of 2g or approximately ½ teaspoon of black cumin every day can help improve hypothyroidism, and it has antiviral, bactericidal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, digestive, analgesic, and antihypertensive effects which also helps protect the liver and helps strengthen the immune system. Simply bring 20ml or approximately 1 cup of water to a boil, then turn off the heat, and add the black cumin powder. Cover the tea, then let it steep or soak for about 5 minutes, and add honey to sweeten the drink. You can consume this drink either hot or cold. Although, you should take caution when drinking this tea especially if you have stomach problems because cumin can cause digestive problems to worsen.
