Materials:

  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • White vinegar
  • Tea tree oil
  • Dish soap
  • Soft sponge
  • Microfiber cloth

Directions:

Step 1

To clean the drum of your washing machine, create a mixture of 2 parts baking soda and 1 part water, and give them a good stir until it becomes a paste. This solution is great at removing odor as well as cleaning buildup and dirt. Dip a sponge into the solution, then gently apply and scrub the inside of the drum. Use a clean and wet microfiber cloth to wipe clean the drum of the solution. Once done, combine a cup of white vinegar with 10 drops of tea tree essential oil, then gently pour it into the detergent tray, and set the cycle to the highest option possible or to tub clean. This solution will help break down soap scum and odors.

Step 2

The gasket is the epicenter of unwanted odors, you can solve this problem by simply combining a solution of equal parts dish soap and vinegar, and adding in 10 drops of tea tree essential oil as well. Using a soft sponge, apply this solution to the inside and outside of the gasket. For the exterior of the machine, simply scrub and wipe it with a damp cloth. Lastly, for your detergent tray, the same solution used for the gasket would also work equally great on the detergent tray. Just give it a good rinse afterward, then pat it dry before putting it back in the machine.
