It’s crazy to know that many people will put on their AirPods, earphones, or earbuds every day for months or years without cleaning. I am guilty to be one of those people, but I try to spot clean them with my nails. However, that’s not deep cleaning or really effective. Andrea Jean Cleaning on YouTube shows how to sanitize and disinfect your earbuds so they’re not ear wax build-up. This method only requires 2 things that you may already have laying around your house. Also, if you do not have toothpicks, I’ve used the back of a thumbtack before and it works because it’s sharp and thin to get into the crevices.
First, spray the rag with the rubbing alcohol, but not too wet. Use the toothpick to carve out any ear wax around the perimeters of the inside of each bud. Scrape very lightly so it does not damage it.

Next, after scraping around the inside of the earbud, use the rag and gently wipe it clean on the outside too. Continue to watch Andrea Jean Cleaning tutorial on YouTube for full instructions and details.
In conclusion, I cleaned my AirPods while watching this video, and it’s so gross to see how much ear wax is in there. I don’t know why I was so lazy to clean them, and now I know how easy it is to use a toothpick to carve it all out. Once you start cleaning your headphones, you’ll realize how dirty it is without seeing much of it. It’s good to clean your earphones once and a while to make sure it’s not disgusting.
