If you’re using a sponge to wash the dishes for quite a while now, then you must have experienced smelling a stinky odor from it. This happens because, over time, the wet sponge becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, which causes a bad smell. This smell can also transfer to the dishes that you’re washing and is something to worry about. Luckily, there’s a simple solution that can save your sponge, especially, if it’s not that used and you don’t want to throw it away just yet. Watch this video tutorial by Kendall Todd TheSilverGuy on YouTube to learn how to properly clean a stinky sponge.
Step 1
Get a mixing bowl or container, then add some liquid bleach and a little bit of dish soap, and mix them together until combined. Place the sponge in the solution, then press it down until completely soaked. If you’re using your hands, wear some gloves, and if you don’t have any protective gloves on, then grab a pair of tongs, a fork, or similar to push the sponge down.

Step 2
After letting the sponge soak for a few minutes, pull it out of the solution, then put it directly under running water, and rinse well while squeezing. After squeezing out all of the solution and the water coming out of the sponge appears to be clean, then you can turn off the water, and squeeze the sponge once more until most of the moisture is gone. Set aside and let dry.
