Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (96%) Food alcohol, either ethanol or ethyl alcohol
  • 10 ounces Water
  • 1 tablespoon Cane sugar, brown sugar, or caramel
  • 3.5 ounces Oakwood chips

You’ll also need

  • Tight-sealed mason jar

Directions:

Step 1

Prepare a clean and sterile tight-sealed mason jar, then place the oakwood chips inside, pour and fill it with hot water to the rim, and seal. Leave it for at least 12 hours until it releases all of the unwanted impurities. After leaving it overnight, throw away the dirty water, then wash and rinse the oakwood chips well. Transfer them to a sheet pan and wait for another 12 hours for it to completely dry, then bake it in a preheated oven at 150°C or 302°F for about an hour.

Step 2

After baking the oakwood chips (do not overdo the baking to avoid them from being burnt), put them in the grill over high heat and roast the woods for an additional 20 minutes. Then, put it back into the tight-sealed mason jar, add in the alcohol and water. Leave it for exactly 10 days untouched, then add the sugar to the jar, seal it, and give it a good shake. Once done, strain and transfer it onto a bottle, serve and enjoy!
