Homemade Liquid Laundry Detergent Tutorial

Materials:
- 5-gallon bucket
- Long paint stirrer
- Grater
- Measuring cup
- 14.1 oz Zote bar
- Borax or skip it if you want mild
- 2 large plastic gallons
- Funnel
Directions:
Step 1
Start off by grating the whole Zote bar onto the large bucket. Once the bar is all grated, grab 2 large plastic gallons and fill it with warm water, then pour it onto the bucket to dissolve the Zote bar shavings. Using a long paint stirrer, give the mixture a good stir for about 2 minutes until completely dissolved and no visible shavings left. Add in 1 cup of borax to the mixture, but you can completely skip this step if you want a milder and more gentle detergent for your colored, sensitive, or baby clothes.

Step 2
Pour in 2 more gallons of hot water and continue stirring until fully combined. Add in 1 last gallon of hot water and stir it again before placing the lid on the bucket. Let it for 24 hours to let it thicken. Grab the gallon and insert a funnel, then fill it halfway with detergent, and the other half with warm water. Give it a good shake, then they’re ready to use. Make sure to shake the gallon every time you use the detergent to make sure that the ingredients are incorporated.
