KFC’s Coleslaw has always hit differently. However, the nearest KFC from home is around an hour’s drive. I got curious and decided to hunt for the best copycat recipe there was so that I could make some at home to binge and enjoy for days. This was when I bumped across Crouton Crackerjack’s copycat recipe. I checked out the ingredients and ran fast to the market to get the ingredients that weren’t in store in my kitchen.

Trust me when I say this, it is the best homemade coleslaw that tastes exactly like the real deal! So, run, don’t walk, to your local market now.

Finely chop a medium head of cabbage and a carrot in a food processor or by hand until they are very small pieces.

In a large bowl, combine the chopped cabbage and carrot and set aside.

In a separate bowl, combine 2 tbsp of minced fresh onion, ½ cup mayonnaise, 1/3 cup sugar, ¼ cup milk, ¼ cup buttermilk, 2 ½ tbsp of lemon juice, 1 ½ tbsp of vinegar, ½ tsp salt, and 1/8 tsp of black pepper.

Mix all the ingredients until well combined.

When done, add in the set-aside cabbage and carrot mixture. Mix until everything is well combined.

Cover the bowl with some plastic cling wrap and place it in the refrigerator to cool and set for at least overnight. Leaving it to sit overnight will allow all the flavors to meld and be incorporated together.

When ready, serve it cold with your prepared meals or at your next barbecue.
