If you haven’t heard of Gerti, you are in for a treat. Gerti is this amazing lady who brought back a whole line of vintage patterns called Charm Patterns by Gerti, that many people are just in love with. I recently found this video tutorial where Gerti shares 10 sewing tips for beginners. Gertie explains all the most important sewing tips that she had to learn the hard way, that makes it really easy for beginners to not have to go through the laborious trial and error method.

Tip 1:

Pull the thread down through the needle portion. When changing your thread, do not pull the thread up from the top of the machine. Clip the thread at the top, then pull the thread down to save undue wear and tear by causing it to get clogged up with lint when you pull it upwards.

Tip 2:

Pay attention to the take-up lever! This is something many overlook when they are threading their machine, but you have to make sure you get the thread firmly caught in the take-up lever because you can get a huge nest of thread that will prevent you from sewing and may damage the machine.

Since I lover experiments, I’ve alwaysnloved to create, paint, as well as cook and style food. I feel in love with DIY as soon as I discovered it and could not have been more excited when I learned I could share projects with people around the world. Taking photos is a passion of mine, as is design and painting with oils. I love holidays and celebrations, crafting cute little gifts and serving up at least one new recipe I am excited about.
