Garlic is probably one of the most important cooking ingredients. Everyone should have it in their pantry. It has a pungent taste and odor when eaten raw. When roasted or simmered, it becomes soft, sweet, and buttery. Not only is it rich in flavor, but also has a lot of proven health benefits.

The only problem with garlic is that it’s hard to peel. So, if you are not a fan of peeling garlic, it is best to buy the peeled ones sold in bags. These peeled garlic bags are great if you are always cooking for a big group, but if not, they might just rot over time. To avoid that from happening, here’s a garlic storage hack that will change your life. I learned about this trick through Olivia Yi‘s video tutorial on YouTube. I have been storing our garlic this way and never looked back.

Start by placing peeled garlic in your food processor. Process until everything is minced, then transfer to a large bowl. Work in batches if you have a small food processor.
Add minced garlic into a freezer bag. Make sure not to put too much to prevent it from getting bulky. Flatten it out so it occupies all the space inside the freezer bag. Seal it properly.
Using a scraper of the dull side of the knife, make horizontal and vertical lines to create a grid.
Place the bags inside the freezer and freeze for a few hours. Next time you need garlic, you can easily cut out a small portion from the bag and it’s ready to use.
