Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of milk (room temp)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 & 1/4 tsp instant yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 & 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • eggwash (1 egg + 2 tbsp milk)

For the garlic butter with scallions spread:

  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 2 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 3 tbsp chopped scallions

Directions:

Step 1

In a bowl, add 1 cup milk, 1 egg, 2 & 1/4 tsp instant yeast, and 1/4 cup sugar. Whisk it well. Next, add 3 & 1/4 cups all-purpose flour and 1 tsp salt. Mix until you form a dough. After the dough forms, cover it for 10 to 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, remove the cover and add 1/4 cup unsalted butter, then fold. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic. After this, form the dough into a ball and place it in an oiled bowl. Cover it and let it rest in a warm place until it doubles in size. (Around 1 hour.) While waiting, make the garlic butter with scallions spread.

Step 2

In a bowl, add 1/2 cup softened butter, 2 tbsp chopped garlic, and 3 tbsp chopped scallions. Mix well. Back to the dough, roll it out into a rectangular shape using a rolling pin. Add the garlic butter mixture and spread it out across the dough nicely and evenly. Add 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese, then cut and divide it into 20 slices. After this, stack 3 pieces of dough and place them in a 7×4 loaf pan. Continue this until you place all the dough pieces into the loaf pan, then cover it and let it rise until it doubles in size. (About 45 minutes.) After this, brush the top with egg wash. Place it in the preheated oven at 350 degrees F and bake for 25 minutes.
