Instructions

Step 1:

Start by peeling the potatoes, then shred them into pieces using a grater. Place them in a bowl of cold water for about 5 minutes. This will help remove excess starch which can create a sticky texture on the outside.

Step 2:

Rinse the potatoes in cold water two times, then put them in a clean cloth napkin or cheesecloth. Wrap them with the cheesecloth and squeeze out any excess liquid.

Step 3:

Add the shredded potatoes in a bowl, followed by the chopped onion, 1/4 teaspoon of red chili flakes, 1/3 teaspoon of black pepper, 2/3 teaspoon of salt, 2 tablespoons of flour, and egg. Mix everything well with a fork.

Step 4:

Place a pan over medium heat and add the vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, take a spoonful of the mixture and add to the pan. Form each one into the shape of a hashbrown. Fry for 4 to 5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Once done cooking, transfer to a plate lined with a paper towel to remove excess oil while you cook the remaining hashbrowns.
