Step 1
Preheat your oven to 375°F, then grease a large sheet pan or jelly roll pan with butter or nonstick cooking spray, and set it aside. Add the flour, granulated sugar, salt, and baking soda in a mixing bowl, then give them a good mix to combine, and set the flour mixture aside. Place a large saucepan on a stove over medium heat, then add the butter and water, and bring it to a gentle boil before immediately removing it from the heat.
Step 2
Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, then give them a good whisk to combine and make sure there are no lumps, and then set the saucepan aside to let the mixture cool for about 5 to 10 minutes. Add the almond extract, sour cream, and milk, then stir them thoroughly until incorporated, add the eggs, and continue mixing until well combined. Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan, then place it in the preheated oven, and let it bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted at the center comes out clean.
Step 3
Remove the cake from the oven, then transfer it to a wire rack, and allow it to cool for about 15 minutes while preparing the icing. Place a saucepan on a stove over medium heat, then add the butter, and let it melt completely. Add the powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract, then whisk everything together until combined, and turn off the heat. Pour the warm icing over the cake, then top it with sprinkles if desired, and serve. Enjoy!
