If you love making guacamole for your favorite taco, then choosing the right avocado is a must! You don’t want it too mushy or too solid, but you can’t cut it in half just to check. Luckily, there is an easy trick to find out whether an avocado is ready to be purchased or not with this video tutorial by Natural Cures on YouTube. This trick is super easy and simple and you’d wish you have known it sooner. Find out how to choose the perfect avocado and what to do when it’s not ripe enough.

Methods:

  • Pull off the stem
  • Ripen it on the oven

Directions:

Step 1

Try lightly tugging the stem of the avocado, if the stem doesn’t pull out, then it’s not ripe enough but will be in a few more days, and it’s best to leave it for someone else. On the other hand, if the stem pulls off easily, and there’s a brown tint beneath it, then the avocado is too ripe at this point. But, if you pull the stem and it looks nice and green underneath, then the avocado is ready to be bought.

Step 2

If you really need avocado for your recipe and you don’t have a choice, you can always try to quicken the ripening process, but it doesn’t always work and taste great for everyone. Wrap the green or unripe avocado with aluminum foil, then preheat your oven to 200°F, place the wrapped avocado in an oven-safe dish, and heat it up in the oven for about 10 minutes or less. Check if the avocado is ready, then carve it out, and use it for your recipe.
