This easy tornado cake recipe by Southern Country Living is actually easy to make, and most ingredients are already in your pantry. All you need to do is combine all the cake ingredients, transfer them to a baking dish, and bake in the oven. While it’s baking, make the topping on your stovetop. Do Nothing Tornado Cake Ingredients

For the cake:

  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 2 cups of granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 20 oz can crushed pineapple juice

For the topping:

  • 1/2 cup of salted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup of evaporated milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup of chopped pecans
  • 1 cup of sweetened coconut flakes

How to Make Tornado Cake

Step 1:

Start by preheating your oven to 350F, and greasing a 9 x 13″ baking pan with butter.

Step 2:

In a large mixing bowl, add flour, sugar, baking soda, eggs, vanilla, and crushed pineapple. Mix until well combined.

Step 3:

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan and bake it for about 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.

Step 4:

Using the handle of the wooden spoon, poke several holes in the cake.

Step 5:

In a medium sauce pan over heat, add your butter, evaporated milk, and vanilla. Bring it to a boil, then add the pecans and coconut. Continue cooking for about 5 minutes on medium heat, while stirring constantly.
