Easy-to-Sew Sofa Blanket Using Fabric Scraps

I have tried a lot of sewing projects before that use fabric scraps, but this project idea by Benden Size on YouTube is probably my favorite so far. What I love about this sofa blanket is how well the fabric scraps are laid out and how lovely and neat it ended up no matter how busy it may seem to look. I was really happy with the result and my sofa felt cozier with the new blanket! You should give this project a try, I highly recommend it.
Materials:
- A pile of fabric scraps
- Ribbon
- Backing fabric
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
Directions:
Step 1
Separate larger fabrics from the smaller ones and then cut the large pile into 15-cm or 6-inch squares. Get one fabric square, then lay a small fabric scrap on top with their right sides facing, and sew them together. Open the fabric, then continue to add more fabric scrap around until you’ve covered the whole block, you can add the fabric scraps however or in whichever direction you want, and once you’ve covered the edges nicely, sew around the block with a ¼-inch seam allowance. Trim off all the excess around the edges, then repeat the same steps with the rest of the fabric squares.

Step 2
Measure and cut the ribbon the same size as one side of the scrappy block, bind the blocks together, then keep on going until you have a full row, and then proceed to bind the rows together with a longer piece of ribbon. Lay the backing fabric on top of the patchwork with their right sides facing together, then sew them together all around the sides with a ½ inch seam allowance, and leave a small section unsewn on one side for turning. Once done sewing, turn the piece right side out, then poke the corners and edges nicely, tuck the edges of the gap in, and sew it close.
