This simple comfort food is a classic Southern favorite that my mom always used to cook for me and my siblings, and this has been one of my all-time favorites since then. I always loved eating this, especially on cold days, but now that it’s my turn to impress my family and my mom, this recipe by Soul Food Cooking on YouTube has been my go-to guide. It is a simple and straightforward tutorial that gives the best and most delicious result.
Step 1
Place a large pot on a stove over medium-high heat, then fill it with water, and add the chopped potatoes as well as some salt. Bring it to a boil, then once boiling, let it cook for about 7 minutes, after cooking, pour all of the water out, and rinse it with cold water. Place a pan on a stove over medium-high heat, then melt the butter, and add the sliced onions. Give it a good toss and saute for about 3 minutes, then add the flour, and let it cook until golden brown while stirring consistently.

Step 2
Pour the chicken broth, then give them a good stir, and season them with salt, pepper, seasoned salt, cajun seasoning, and onion powder. Mix them all together until well combined, then bring the mixture to a light simmer, and let it cook until the gravy thickens. Once thick, add the potatoes, give it a good stir, then cover with the lid, and let it cook for 3 more minutes. Serve and enjoy!
