You can use any or all of your favorite print fabrics in this quilt project and make each block look as scrappy as you want and I guarantee you that it will still look incredibly beautiful. This is a technique that I learned a long time ago and is something that I still make and incorporate in my recent quilt projects.

Materials for Stack and Cut Quilt Block:

  • Assorted print fabrics
  • Ruler
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine

How to Make a Stack and Cut Quilt Block:

Step 1

Cut 4 different fabrics into 8×8-inch squares, stack them on top of each other, and ensure their edges are lined up nicely. Make 3 slightly wonky cuts, then move the first piece of the 2nd stack to the bottom of the layers, on the 3rd stack, move the first 2 pieces to the bottom, and for the 4th and last stack, move the first 3 pieces to the bottom.

Step 2

Now, stitch the first layers together one at a time with ¼ inch seam allowance, then press the seams open, and do the same for the remaining layers. Trim each block into 5½ x 7½ inches, then piece the blocks together, and finish your quilt however you want.
