This is the reason why I always make sure to keep a jar of it in my fridge, but there was a time when I forgot to include it in my grocery list and purchase it, and that was one of the most frustrating things that has ever happened to me.

That’s when I started to think of alternatives or other options that I could explore, and since I have some cheese and leftover pimentos in the kitchen, I thought why not try to whip up a homemade version? So, I went over a couple of video tutorials online until I found this simple yet very delicious recipe by Allrecipes on Youtube which requires only a few simple ingredients and is ready in as fast as 15 minutes!

Ingredients for Southern Pimento Cheese:

  • 2 cups of shredded extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 (8 oz) block of cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 (4 oz) jar of diced pimento, drained
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, deseeded and minced, optional
  • ¼ tsp of garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp of ground cayenne pepper, optional
  • ¼ tsp of onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Gather and prepare all of the ingredients you need, and then in a large bowl, add the cheddar cheese, cream cheese, mayonnaise, pimento, mince jalapeño, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and onion powder. Mix everything until thoroughly combined, then season the mixture with salt and black pepper to taste, and serve with your favorite, bread, chips, or dippers on the side. Enjoy!
