This recipe by TheWolfePit on YouTube is the best and easiest way to make classic Southern hush puppies. You don’t need a lot of ingredients to make this, just a box of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix would do, but I guarantee you it tastes just as delicious. But, if you want to use more seasonings to make it more savory, you can do that as well, or be a little extra by adding cheese to the mixture.

This would make a great appetizer or snack at any party, and you can even bring it to a potluck. If you want to make them in larger batches to be able to feed a crowd, just double the ingredients as needed. I’m sure that everyone will keep coming back to the table for more servings, and I bet that it will be gone within just a few minutes, it’s that delicious and addicting.

  • 1 box of Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
  • ¼ cup of all-purpose flour
  • egg
  • 1/3 cup of Frank’s Red Hot Sauce

Additional

  • Ranch dressing
  • Frank’s Red Hot Sauce
  • Jalapeños

How to Make Southern Hush Puppies:

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, add the Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix, all-purpose flour, egg, and Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, then whisk them until well combined, and set them aside to sit for about 10 minutes.

Step 2

Preheat the oil to 350°F, then use a small ice cream scoop or two spoons to scoop out the batter, and drop them in the hot oil. Cook them in batches and let them deep fry for about 2 to 3 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Step 3

Meanwhile, cook the jalapeños in a dry skillet over medium heat for about 10 to 15 minutes making sure to flip them every 30 minutes until they are charred and starting to soften.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix equal parts of Ranch dressing with Frank’s Red Hot Sauce until uniform, then serve the sauce on the side of the hush puppies along with the charred jalapeños, and enjoy!
