Ingredients for Skillet Steak Dinner:

Steak

  • 1½ pounds of ground chuck
  • ¼ cup of milk
  • ½ cup of Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/3 cup of onion, grated
  • 4 cloves garlic, grated
  • 1 tbsp of Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • ½ tsp of black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten

Mushroom Gravy

  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 pound of mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • ½ cup of dry red wine
  • 3 tbsp of butter
  • 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups of low-sodium beef stock
  • 1 tbsp of Dijon mustard
  • 2 tsp of fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

How to Make Steak Skillet Dinner:

Step 1

In a large bowl, add the breadcrumbs, milk, and grated onion, then mix them until fully combined, and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Add the ground chuck, grated garlic, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and beaten eggs, then continue to gently mix until combined, and form them into 4 patties equally at about 1-inch thick each.

Step 2

Place a cast-iron or heavy skillet on a stove over medium heat, then add the olive oil, and sear the patties for about 3 to 4 minutes per side or until nicely browned. In the same pan, add the onions and mushrooms, then season them with a pinch of salt, and saute them for a few minutes until the moisture of the mushrooms is gone and they are browned.

Step 3

Pour in the wine, then turn the heat to high, and scrape up the brown bits at the bottom of the pan. Stir and cook for 2 to 3 minutes or until the wine has evaporated entirely, then turn the heat to medium, and add the butter. Once melted, add the flour, and cook for an additional 2 minutes or until golden. Slowly pour in the stocking while whisking continuously, then turn the heat to medium-high, and keep whisking until smooth.

Step 4

Add the mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme, then turn the heat down to a simmer, and put the cooked steaks back into the pan. Spoon the gravy on top of the steaks, then allow them to simmer for about 5 to 7 minutes while covered, and flip them over halfway through the cooking time. Once the steaks are cooked through, adjust the flavor of the gravy as needed, then serve, and enjoy!
