This lovely quilted table runner has beautiful stars in them and is sure to add some fun to your table! What I love about this quilting project is how neat and clear the shapes of the stars are, I also like the contrast of colors which makes the design pop even more. Materials:

  • 2 packs of charm squares, 1 colorful and 1 almost plain/plain
  • Backing fabric
  • Border fabric
  • Binding fabric
  • Batting fabric
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Marking pen or pencil
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Needle and thread
  • Sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Open the printed charm packs, then sort them into groups of 12 dark and 12 medium-colored squares, the dark squares will be the point of the stars, while the medium ones will be at the center and way out towards the edges. Separate the dark and medium groups into 2 sets of each, then add plain squares with the lighter sets, and join the darker sets together with the remaining plain squares. Draw a line at the back of each plain square, pivoting, and dividing them in half into triangles. Lay 1 printed and 1 plain together with their right sides facing, then sew them together with a ¼” seam allowance on each side of the line, and press before cutting along those lines.

Step 2

Open up the block with the seam allowance going toward the direction of the dark fabric, then give it a nice press, and continue making half triangle blocks with the rest of the pieces. Trim the plain squares down to the size of your half triangle blocks, then start sewing the pieces together as shown in the video, and finger press them in between stitching. Give them a nice press, then once done with 4 whole blocks, start assembling them together with a nice star shape in the middle, and sew them together. Cut the fabric pieces for your binding and border, then sew them accordingly, and sew the batting and backing to your table runner as well. Add some patterns all over the piece to finish your quilt.
