Sitting on a chair with a puffy and comfy pillow makes a huge difference to your comfort level than you may think. When it comes to pillows or seat cushions, you should opt for DIY versions rather than store-bought ones because you can customize your pillow to however soft or big you want it to be, plus, it is more inexpensive, too. Watch this video tutorial by My sewing tutorial on YouTube to learn how now.

Materials:

  • Paper
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Needle and thread
  • Fabric scraps
  • Backing fabric
  • Batting fabric
  • Poly-fil fiberfill
  • Zipper
  • Sewing machine

Directions:

Step 1

Cut a paper template at 14cm (5.5 inches) and 11cm (4.3 inches), then stack your fabric scraps nicely, place the 14cm template on top, and mark around it. Cut the fabric all at once with a ¼-inch seam allowance all around the edges and then do the same for the backing fabric using the 11cm template.  Match 1 main fabric and 1 backing fabric together with their right sides facing, then match the edges folding the excess on the center as shown in the video, and stitch all the way around. Do the same for the rest of the squares, then lay them into rows arranging the color and pattern however you want.

Step 2

Start stitching them per row before stitching the rows to each other. Cut the backing fabric to size, then stitch a zipper to it, and sew ruffles around the edges of the front piece. Lay the backing piece on top of the front piece with their right sides facing, then stitch them together all around the edges, and start cutting a small hole in the backing fabric of each square. Stuff the squares, then sew the holes shut and stitch a batting fabric over the back of the front piece. Turn the pillow right side out and you’re done!
