I love making quilts that have fun patterns and use different colors and prints of fabric, I have a couple of quilt projects that are my absolute favorite to make including stained glass quilts, a few appliques, and illusion quilt blocks. One of the most recent quilts that I found a liking to is this sashed half hexi by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star on YouTube.

What I love about this quilt block is how easy and simple it is to put together and the fact that it requires only 10″ fabric squares to make, if you have some leftover fabrics, and don’t know where to use them yet, then you might just like this half hexi quilt. Learn how now by watching the video tutorial and see for yourself.

Materials for Sashed Half Hexi Quilt:

  • 1 package of 10″ squares
  • 1½ yards of sashing fabric
  • 10″ half hexi template
  • 1¼ yards of border fabric
  • ½ yard of binding fabric

Step 1

Cut hexagons out of all your 10-inch squares using the half hexi template, for faster cutting, fold the square in half, then line up the ruler on the edge, and cut off the corners. Take the border fabric and cut it into 1½-inch strips, then line it up at the bottom of the half hexi fabric, and stitch it in place.

Step 2

Cut the excess fabric and press it nicely, then do the same for the rest of the half hexi. Attach a side piece to the bottom piece matching the edges and top nicely as demonstrated in the video, then sew them right along the edges, and press flatly.

Step 3

Add the next pieces until you make a braid, then stop at six, and square up the block to 12½ inches. Continue to make more blocks, then put them together, and stitch them one at a time pressing the seams as you go. Add the border, binding, sashing, and finish the quilt however you want.
